Knowing Jaundice In Newborn

Jaundice is a yellowing of the skin and eyes. It's caused by too much bilirubin in the blood. Bilirubin is a yellow substance that's made when red blood cells break down. Jaundice usually starts on the face and moves down the body. It can make your baby's skin look yellow and their urine look dark. Jaundice usually goes away on its own within 2 weeks, but it can be dangerous if it gets worse. That's why it's important to know the signs and symptoms of jaundice, how to treat it, and when to call the doctor.

Causes Of Jaundice In newborn

Jaundice occurs when there is an excess of bilirubin in the blood. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment that is produced when red blood cells are broken down. Jaundice can occur in newborns because their liver is not yet mature enough to effectively process and remove bilirubin from the blood. Additionally, newborns have a higher red blood cell turnover rate than older infants and children, which can also lead to increased levels of bilirubin in the blood. If jaundice is severe, it can lead to brain damage.

Symptoms Of Jaundice In Newborn

Jaundice is most common in newborns because their liver is not yet able to effectively remove bilirubin from the body. Symptoms of jaundice in newborns may include: -Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes -Fussiness or lethargy -Poor feeding or weight loss -Dark urine or pale stools If you suspect your baby has jaundice, it is important to contact your healthcare provider. Jaundice can sometimes be a sign of a more serious underlying condition, so prompt medical attention is important.

Treatment Of Jaundice In Newborn

Jaundice is a yellow discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes. It occurs when there is an excess of bilirubin, a yellow pigment, in the blood. Jaundice is most common in newborns because their liver is not yet fully developed and cannot effectively remove bilirubin from the blood. Most cases of jaundice in newborns are benign and resolve on their own within 2 to 3 weeks. However, some babies may develop severe jaundice which can lead to brain damage. Treatment for jaundice generally involves exposing the baby to sunlight or using special lights (phototherapy) to help break down bilirubin in the blood. In severe cases, a blood transfusion may be necessary.

Is Jaundice Common?

Jaundice is most common in newborns, but it can occur at any age. Most newborns develop jaundice within the first few days of life. It is usually not a cause for concern and will go away on its own within two to three weeks. If jaundice persists for more than three weeks, it may be a sign of a more serious underlying condition.

How Yue Zi Le Cater Our Meals To Further Help Mummies With Newborn Jaundice?
